We are proposing to build new homes for older people in Wedmore

What is proposed?

Blue Cedar Homes (BCH) has submitted a planning application for the development of 11 bespoke homes for older people on land to the north of Holdenhurst, close to the centre of Wedmore and its facilities.

We launched this website to share our draft proposals with the community before submitting a planning application to Sedgemoor District Council.

Planning background

The emerging Sedgemoor Local Plan and Wedmore Neighbourhood Plan focus on the delivery of 116 new homes for Wedmore in the next 15 years. The Wedmore Neighbourhood Plan Group has undertaken a 'call for sites' in order to allocate the most suitable sites in the village for new housing. Furthermore, the Neighbourhood plan process has identified a need for 'down-sizing' opportunities in the village.

The Land at Holdenhurst has been identified in the emerging Neighbourhood Plans as 'sustainable' in that it is well located to local services – being only a 150 metre walk to the main facilities of the village via level pavements. The site is currently identified as part of a joint housing allocation in the emerging Neighbourhood Plan together with land to the north of the village car park entrance road. The draft housing allocation consulted on by the Neighbourhood Plan Group identifies that the entire area including land at Holdenhurst should be accessed from the existing car park access route from Cheddar Road. The proposal that Blue Cedar Homes is consulting on covers part of the draft housing allocation and is based on a direct access from Cheddar Road. This is to ensure that the proposal can be accessed via land that is within Blue Cedar Homes' control.

The proposed housing will complement a much wider range of new homes that are planned for the other sites within the village in the next 15 years including new family accommodation and affordable homes.

Community engagement

We asked the local community for their thoughts on our plans before submitting our planning application to Sedgemoor District Council.

The deadline for comments has now passed.
